Tweenage Wasteland: ATP Presents Bowlie II
All Tomorrow’s Parties (ATP), the festival where the headline band acts as curator, has its origins in the Bowlie Weekender curated by Belle and Sebastian in April 1999 at Camper Sands in Sussex, UK. To wrap up the ten years of ATP celebrations (who needs to be specific about dates?) ATP got Belle and Sebastian back in the driver’s seat for Bowlie II at Butlins Holiday Camp in Minehead, Somerset, UK. When I realised this coincided with my European travel plans, I knew I had to go. An objective review of the weekend is impossible for me, as almost two weeks later I’m still gushing, so what follows is a kind of recollection of my experience of the greatest music festival I have ever known. The Stooges’ Rider
File this one under oldie-but-a-goodie. This surfaced a few years ago, but if you somehow missed it (or if you have seen it but feel like something to do between Christmas lunch and Christmas dinner), it’s worth a look.

Food Pyramid — “Cruisin”
Minneapolis outfit Food Pyramid’s second release (creatively titled II) is pretty special stuff. They’re krauty, they’re energetic, and they’re heaps of fun. The film clip to “Cruisin” is much the same, all trippy and messed up and just the perfect… Read More

Grinderman — Evil
I’m not quite sure what to think about the latest film clip from Grinderman. On the one hand, it’s kinda boring. On the other hand, it’s creepy as all hell.
“Evil” itself is one of the highlights of the Grinderman 2,… Read More

Quiet Lights — Ablaze
It would be very easy to throw around terms such as ethereal indie pop and shoegaze in labeling Brooklyn’s Quiet Lights. But, as the band themselves point out, there’s a little more than that. There’s a hint of a slightly… Read More

If I had my way, every post on this blog would be about Neil Young. However, because there are apparently other musicians out there making music, I’ll try to limit my Neil Young related posts to around one a month… Read More
