I’ll be honest: I was always going to give this album a good review. I mean, Nick Cave? The guy is a genius. But for argument’s sake (and for the sake of the readers out who are not as easily charmed as myself) I vowed to make a conscientious effort to remain objective for my first listen to the album. So there I was, sitting on the couch, arms folded, and a ‘come on impress me’ expression on my face. I even glared at the stereo. In response, an unassuming gentile and bluesy riff drifted out from the speakers. It wiled me, it beguiled me, and just when I was beginning to relax it shifted, slamming into a balls-out guitar riff that had me shaking the dirt out of my shoes by the end of it. Damn!
