Illustrious Australian trio, the Necks are bringing their incredibly captivating, transcendental performance to two colossal nights of improvisation at the Bakery on January 26 and 27, 2011.
Not entirely ambient, nor minimalist, nor jazz, The Necks continue to craft an immersive, hypnotic, ritual-like concert experience that is unique in the world of music today. The deceptive simplicity of their music throws forth new charms on each listen and the completely improvised performances are executed with precision. Their cohesion reflects the group’s 22 years of experience. Traditional piano trio sounds are rebuilt by The Necks, leaving audiences mesmerised as their lengthy pieces slowly unravel in hypnotic fashion.
Counting Brian Eno and Nick Cave amongst their legions of fans, The Necks have received worldwide critical acclaim. During their extensive touring, they have performed at the Australian debut of All Tomorrows Parties, been voted “best band to play at the end of the universe” by Sydney Independent News and played with Brian Eno in a series of three sold out concerts at the Sydney Opera House.
With no two performances the same, The Necks will bring their brain-bending shows to the Bakery in 2011. Their mystifying ability to turn hours into minutes while they conjure sound mountains out of thin air has kept long-term fans coming back time after time.
Following on from their highly praised fifteenth album, 2009’s Silverwater and an incredible live reputation, these two shows need to be seen to be believed.
Adding to the incredible dynamic of the shows, local mystifiers M.Roesner and DJ Wrighteous will support on the 26th, while experimentalists Adam Trainer and DJ Chris Cobilis play on the 27th.
